The album was released using a “pay-what-you-want” pricing model, similar to Radiohead’s “In Rainbows.” This allowed fans to choose how much they wanted to pay, even if it was nothing.
The album features an incredible 322 different samples from various songs, making it a complex and intricate mashup masterpiece.
Before its official release, a fake version of the album was leaked online. The artist behind the fake leak later apologized, explaining that it was his own album that had been mislabeled.

The album’s title was inspired by a Mariah Carey poster. Ryan Adams had only 15 seconds to name the album, and he saw the word “Heartbreaker” on the poster and chose it.
The album was recorded in just 14 days at Woodland Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.
Despite being his debut solo album, “Heartbreaker” was highly acclaimed and is often considered one of the greatest solo debuts of the new millennium.
