Plans and A Night at the Opera
Week #5 – February 13
Plans
by Death Cab for Cutie
Little know facts
Unlike their previous albums, which were recorded in Seattle, “Plans” was recorded at Long View Farm in Massachusetts and Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin.
Chris Walla, the band’s guitarist, took on the role of producer for the album, marking his first time producing a full-length album for Death Cab for Cutie.
The album is considered a loose concept album, exploring the theme of uncertainty and the idea that making plans is essentially making a “tiny prayer to Father Time”.
A Night at the Opera
by Queen
Little know facts
At the time of its release, “A Night at the Opera” was the most expensive album ever recorded, costing over £40,000 (around $100,000 at the time).
The album features a wide range of instruments, including a double bass, harp, ukulele, and even a kazoo, showcasing Queen’s eclectic musical influences.
The song “Death on Two Legs” was written by Freddie Mercury as a scathing critique of the band’s former manager, Norman Sheffield, whom Mercury felt had mistreated the band.
